South Australian police have located and seized 98 cannabis plants being grown at sites along Coorong National Park.
Police said the plants were located at three sites on Crown land near Salt Creek, and that they varied in size between 1 to 3 metres tall.
Officers found damage to the natural vegetation caused by land clearing to make space for the cannabis plants, and said the biodiversity of the area had been negatively affected.
Officers from the Drug and Organised Crime Task Force, Water Operations Unit and National Parks and Wildlife conducted the search on Tuesday.
“The use of Crown land by criminal groups shows disregard for the natural environment for the sole purpose of trading in illicit drugs,” Detective Chief Inspector David Huddy said.
The investigation into the crop will continue, and police have called on anyone with information about the manufacturing of drugs, or cannabis cultivation to contact Crime Stoppers.
