What a beautiful and inspiring podcast. This was such a deep conversation, and had some dark moments but it just left a feeling of wanting to do good in the world. The ending of this video is so lovely! I can't believe he didn't realise she did the voice, that's amazing.

Sorry Katee but I have never seen or heard of a story where a family cat has attacked a child or any member of a family and they have required reconstructive surgery or worse. I have witnessed, when I was young, the neighbours dog rip the bottom palings off a fence and run across the street and try to bite through the chicken wire fence to get to a toddler playing in a sandpit in their yard. To the point the mouth was all bloody from it trying to get through the wire. This was a dog I had played with for years with the neighbours. It had never bitten me (aside from accidental nips while playing) never given any signs of aggression beyond running at and barking at the birds landing in the yard, but that day, it decided that kid across the road needed to die and it tried it's best to make that happen.
I have never trusted dogs from that point on. I've had dogs myself, even with my kids, but I have never trusted them to be alone with my kids.
I have two "Pit-mix" Breed dogs, both being girls. As they are both well-behaved, there was one day when I had them both on the front porch and secured. A neighbor from down the road was walking her two Chihuahuas, my dogs saw her dogs, and my two Pit-mixes were very unsettled by her dogs, as all four dogs were barking too no end. It drove my dogs crazy enough to where one accidentally stepped on the other and it drove them to try and fight. I broke it up, and I do not recommend doing it in the way I seperated their brawl…lol. I stuck my right arm in between them, yes I know this was a big risk, but I'd rather live with a couple scratches then both of them get torn up. After a few brief seconds, it was over, and once they had some time apart, it never happened again, and I had a couple scratches, nothing that wouldn't heal. I think some dogs just do not feel comfortable around other dogs, as you never know where the trigger is, it just happens. I'm very glad to see you back on here, Katee!! It's always great to see the energy that you bring into your interviews!
This episode with Dr Kwan really resonated with me that it felt like I was being seen. Just last September 2023 i went from a full time work from home job at a Fitness wearable company, that I can only say rhymes with ‘oops’, to being let go and evicted from my apartment to hopping from hotel to hotel and now living in my car for about four weeks. I had two dogs (Keiko and Luna, 10 & 1 y/o) and a cat (Conan the Barbarian, 1 y/o). My family did not understand or did not want to try to understand how I could not live without my support animals and they also would offer me places to stay but without the dogs and I just could not make that choice. My mother did try to let me stay with her, but her building did not allow animals normally as pets, and she was being either willfully, ignorant, or being told that she will lose her apartment if the dogs were allowed to stay there even though I had all the documentation that supported from my therapist. Once I realized that I had no choice, but to stay in my car with the animals I had tried to at least have someone take care of Conan the barbarian cat, but at the last minute they changed their mind, and I had to stay with all of them in a small Little hatchback electric car and on the very next day while trying to do Uber eats deliveries to make some ends meat, Conan must’ve jumped out of the car without me seeing and I had just hit bottom when I could not find him and broke down on the side of the road Throwing things out of my car and screaming why! it’s been about four weeks and even though he was chipped we haven’t heard anything and all I hope is that he is doing well. He was always an indoor outdoor cat so I’m sure he’s OK at least I hope so. That’s how I get through my days, I have Keiko and Luna but I can’t say his name out loud because Luna starts looking for him. Keiko cries. So this episode, when I heard about one of the animals and people that Dr. Quan helped at others, would also make a choice to not have a warm bed and a hot shower every night and have those comfort because they can’t leave their family and they’re only support system Really touch me. I know now there is some sort of light at the end of the tunnel but I know one thing is I could never, and I will never leave my girls.
well her other video she got a following to this but … i feel shes so conscious of how she looks on camera pull it yo audio straight then she'll get it. this hour or do what rapport and etc. i did that someones first karoake. but few yrs later la then vocal lessons. intro on a longer intro of how you know each other seg to blah
Wow. What a great conversation!!! When Dr Stewart starts talking about being able to gain a perspective on so many other's lives through caring for their pets? it was just amazing.
I would say she's not hitting the marks so to speak and the wrap time factor in taped and its …. I feel anyone in stunts or aspiring learners adults too, its practice practice practice how many you do in class etc. Interviews don't come easy. I hear many in casual conversation and Capote knows what happens you publish those. But law class separate for defamation and privacy is a must for any aspiring even porky Jemima alpha OHpra cries about beef and dropped from beef sponsors. That too. Its a lot. But lacking something.
Cats and dogs are great but keep in mind that every year we raise 82 billion animals just to murder them… and still, there are over 800 million people currently starving. Show more compassion to farm animals, leave them alone 💚
Thank you for speaking up about veterans. When I came back from Iraq and my enlistment was up, I was basically dumped out into the streets with nothing but my active duty family to help ease my transition. That basically consisted of trying to drink and party away our post traumatic stress. Not exactly an effective treatment method. They were slowly reassigned to different duty stations, and I needed to move on, too. But then I had nobody, and was for the first time truly alone with these profoundly deep feelings and troubled thoughts and memories. My family didn't understand, my friends back home had all moved on with their lives, and I had nobody. So I went to the VA. They categorically denied my claims and never gave the legally required explanations as to WHY my ailments were deemed, "Not Service Connected." I never went back. I was effectively homeless for the next 10 years, bouncing from state to state crashing on couches and working brief odd jobs. Self-medicating with weed and alcohol, chain smoking cigarettes and resenting everyone, and especially resenting everything they took for granted. I ended up connecting with a veteran support group through social media, and it changed everything; within a year I began a real career and started turning my life around. It's been 7 years, and I'm doing well enough, although I face challenges on a daily basis which would be sufficient for most people to give up working and take disability instead. I can't do that, because I've seen how self-destructive I can be when I'm not keeping myself busy. I learned the hard way that the mind can be an abyss, and that you shouldn't have to navigate your traumas alone. But, I had no help from the one organization that our tax dollars PAY to give us the care we need. I had to find it on my own, and so did every other veteran in my unconventional little support group. We need your help. The VA is just a pacifier for the public. Just enough to shut you all up about how poorly we're treated. It's a joke within the veteran community. We've just kind of accepted it. But we shouldn't have to. It's because so many voters just don't care. You can SAY you support our troops all you want, but until you vote for pro-veteran policies and sweeping VA reforms, to us, it's just empty noise and virtue signaling. That applies regardless of political affiliation. It's a cultural problem here in the US, and we NEED your help to fix it. Nobody listens to us, there just aren't enough of us to make a dent in the vote, and our suicide rate isn't helping with those numbers. So please don't just talk about it, please be about it. Stand up for those of us who've stood up for you and yours. If you don't, nobody does, and the cycle continues for the next generation. Thank you for reading my story, Kwane triggered something with that little sidebar and I just started writing… I don't share much, or often. So if you've read this far, no matter who you are, thank you for taking the time to listen. Wishing you the best.
So I had No idea what to expect from this podcast, What an AMAZING story and interview!!! So glad I clicked on this, The meeting with Bitch puddings dad was Gold! Great Job Katee
Fun fact: the pit bull once held the nickname “the nanny dog” because of its good temperament especially around children. And their naturally gentle and affectionate nature. The only reason they have such a vicious reputation, these days, is because we took advantage of their drive to please us and turned them into something they’re not
He is amazing. Such an inspirational guy!! On another note-I’m going to my first MegaCon in Orlando next month and am disappointed you can’t be there!! Maybe next year?
Amazing conversation and guy, hero. This brought me to tears. Dogs are just incredible. My saviours. I did a photography project called 100 strangers and their dogs. I met a couple of homeless people with dogs and the bond was something to see. These dogs are the most well behaved, no leashes. But they spend 24/7 with their pack. Like you spoke about, the co dependence between man and dog, and in both cases the dogs saved the people. They might not have homes but their dogs are their everything and visa versa. I asked to make their photograph after sitting and chatting to them. They agreed and to this day still love the images. Sorry for the big ramble, and thank you x
Katie, now that you're back in Portland, the Multnomah Humane Society always does 2 for 1 with cats
Great interview! I will have to check out the book.
Hey Katee, great interview, so many great personalities so far, you're really kickin ass. You really made Richards day at the end. cheers
Dogs are a holy cause. We created dogs. We owe them.

He is an amazing human. ❤
Also, I just want to group hug these two.

The outro meeting was so wholesome 🙂
Love this episode!! I also hang onto my dogs probably past point that I should. I just want to give them every day that I can!

Might be one of the best interviews she ever does. Hope it gets the views it deserves
My question for Kwane is has anyone ever confused you for Vin Diesel? You look like you could be his stunt double in The Fast & Furious movies.
Be the change you want to see in the world. Excellent Work!!

I'm sorry but her guest thinks a 22 year is a millennial. A 22 year old is Gen Z. Stop lumping us in with them! Millennials are aged 27-42!
